On campus jobs are open to all students who are enrolled at least half time. So far, over 1500 applications for students working on campus have been processed so the opportunities are competitive. The good news is, jobs are available on campus all year!
Lorna Rodriguez, like many other students, became frustrated when she had applied and interviewed for several positions on campus that she found on the
Student Employment Website. After a few weeks, persistence paid off when she received a phone call from Career Development and she got an interview! Now, Lorna is entering post-graduation jobs online, helping with the two career fairs, and assisting both career counselors at PLU. Lorna's advice to your student is, “Just keep trying and don’t give up. Give follow- up phone calls and e-mails to the employers that you are interested in working for and apply to several positions.”
If your student has Federal or State Work Study, and they choose to use that award, they will be paid as employees and the earnings will be deducted from the awarded amount. Unlike some other financial aid awards (i.e. grants and scholarships), work study earnings are not automatically paid to your student’s tuition but paid to your student as a paycheck. The offer to use work study is available to all students once they have become employed.
The State Work Study Program is designed to provide paraprofessional work experience to students in fields related to their intended career goals. There are over 100 contracted employers that advertise and hire more than 300 students each year. If your student has been awarded work study, they are eligible for either on-campus Federal Work Study or off-campus State Work Study.
