Hello Parents!

Just four years ago I was beginning to embark on my journey into college here at PLU (my number one choice of university).  At that time, I was ecstatic at the idea of being a student for as many years as possible.  Now, despite the fact that the senioritis bug caught up with me, I look back at my time here and cannot believe how many important lessons I learned (both in and out of the classroom)

The world is bigger than I will ever understand.  I took advantage of the opportunity to study abroad twice during my career here at PLU - once in Italy and once in Ecuador.  During the course of my travels, I met many different people, stayed in many different areas, and experienced some very different ways of life.  Some experiences made me want to travel for the rest of my life, while others made me appreciate very much all that I have and take for granted here at home.  All in all, I will continue to travel and explore the world - both in person and through reading and research - because I want to learn as much as possible of the world outside of my native country.

I can make anything happen.  Through my experiences in clubs on campus, I have seen a lot of ideas born and brought to life.  I myself was able to bring one of my ideas to life as president of Hip Hop 101, PLU's hip-hop dancing club, with a surprise dance performance in the middle of the UC during dinner.  Being a member of Hawaii Club, I witnessed the amazing success of all our hard work in the annual luau each year.  As I continue in life, I will be sure not to sell myself short, and recognize that if I try, I can make that amazing new dream a reality.

Always make time for friends.  While this is something I also learned in high school, middle school, elementary school, even preschool, it is still an important lesson.  Being away from some of the friends I made in those younger years, I have realized how much they mean to me and tried to see them or at least chat regularly.  I have also met some of my greatest friends here, though it has been difficult at times to keep in touch, even with my own roommate.  Even if we have to schedule a "date" a week or month in advance, it is worth it to keep a good friend.

The learning will never stop.  As I continue with my one wild and precious life, I will continuously be granted opportunities to learn.  I am happy to say I am an employed graduate, and when I begin working at my new job I will be learning a whole new set of skills (in retirement plan administration, if any of you are looking).  Not just at work, but also in life, as long as I continue asking questions and seeking answers, my education will never stop.

After reading this, I hope you are feeling even more excited about your student's choice to be a Lute.  Let me know if you're looking for some help with retirement plan administration!
