2010-2011 First-Year & Transfer Checklist
Welcome to Pacific Lutheran University! This checklist contains details associated with registration at PLU. Each section reflects important information and requirements you, and your student may have already completed or need to complete.
If your student does not complete the requirements regarding medical history records, immunizations, official transcripts, Payment Contracts, or financial aid, the University will place a HOLD(s) on your student’s account. The HOLD(s) will restrict your student from certain University privileges, including the right to be registered or to continue enrollment. ePassHas your student created their ePass (PLU email)? It is easy to create, just follow the directions on the
website Did your student know the primary means of communication for faculty and staff is utilizing students’ PLU email?Did your student know the PLU email can be forwarded to their own established personal email?LuteCardHas your student obtained their LuteCard (ID Card) at the Concierge Desk? It is located at the entrance to the University Center. They can also obtain a Lute Card once arriving on campus for Orientation Weekend!
PLU ID Number & PIN (Personal Identification Number)Does your student know their PLU ID Number and PIN (Personal Identification Number)?
Did you know it is your student’s responsibility to give their PLU ID Number and PIN to any spouse/parent/significant other they want to have access to their financial aid and student account information? Without both identification numbers, information cannot be released.Vehicle InformationDid you know to park in the university parking lots, student vehicles must be registered with Campus Safety? Your student can register for a designated parking lot
online in July! To avoid being ticketed, they must comply with the Vehicle Parking Regulations that can be found
online.
Health FormsHas your student turned in their Medical History Record and gotten up to date with immunizations?

A student should carry their Health Insurance Card with them at all times while attending PLU and be sure the university has an emergency phone number and the appropriate contact person listed.Required Health InsuranceDid you know your student is required to have health insurance while they attend PLU as a full-time student? Did you also know your student is
automatically enrolled in the $450 annual PLU plan every year? Each year you must fill out an online waiver to opt your student out of the PLU plan if you have a comparable health insurance plan.
This year’s deadline is September 20, 2010 at midnight. Please visit this
website to waive the student insurance.
A.W.G. Dewar Tuition Refund PlanHas your student considered the optional A.W.G. Dewar Tuition Refund plan?
In the event of an emergency (such as personal injury, illness, or psychological distress), and if a full withdrawal from PLU is medically necessary, this plan covers tuition, room and meals.

Residence Hall HousingResidential Life recognizes that living in a residence hall provides new students with a foundation for building life-long friendships and opportunities through numerous social and educational activities. If your student has not yet applied to live on campus please contact the
Office of Residential Life at 253-535-7200. If your student has applied for housing and signed their Housing and Meal Plan Contract they are encouraged to electronically submit a Roommate Questionnaire, which can be found on the
Residential Life website. This questionnaire is then used by our professional staff members to hand match roommate assignments.
Housing Contracts and Meal Plans First year students who will be living on-campus are required to sign a
Housing Contract and Meal Plan. When students electronically sign a housing contract, they are automatically signed up for The Lute Choice meal plan. It offers approximately 3 meals a day. If that’s okay with your student – they are set! If your student would like to choose from one of the other options, they will also need to complete a
2010-2011 Optional Meal Plan Contract. Warn your student to read these contracts carefully before submitting them, they include deadlines for changing or canceling meal plans.
Transcripts Has your student sent PLU their final Official High School Transcript with final grades and their graduation date? Has your student sent PLU all official transcripts from other colleges/universities they have attended?Registration and DeadlinesDo you know that once your student has initially registered for classes, and decides to rearrange their schedule, they should check with their Summer Registration Counselor, Academic Advisor or the
Academic Advising Office for assistance?
Verification of EnrollmentDid you know that the
Student Services Center verifies enrollment and sends requests for medical insurance, auto insurance and military dependence information to your student’s providers?

2010-2011 Student PlannerDid you know the Daily Planner and Student Handbook have daily and monthly calendars pre-printed with important PLU information?
Residential students will receive a planner during move-in. New off-campus students will receive a planner during orientation or you can get a copy in the
Student Services Center, located in the Hauge Administration Building,
Student Involvement and Leadership, located in UC 161, or
ASPLU, located in UC 140, on or after September 7.
Payment ContractsDid your student sign and return their 2010-2011 Payment Contract? If they need to submit a copy, they can visit this
website.
If your student selected the Monthly Payment Plan, did they contact Tuition Management Services to set up payments? To enroll with TMS go
online or call 1-888-713-7234. If they selected Payment in Full, does your student know their payment is due on
August 25, 2010?
If your student selected Financial Aid and Other Resources Cover Costs Plan, do they know they are responsible for their financial aid and other resources being applied to their account by September 30, 2010 for the Fall semester?
If your student has a credit balance for fall and would like a refund, please go to the section below titled
Refunds.
Did your student submit an Address Confirmation Form? If not, they can visit this
website.
Financial Aid Did your student accept or decline their Offer of Financial Aid on Banner Web? If not, they should return the paper copy to the
Student Services Center or the
Financial Aid Office. Revised Offers of Financial Aid are sent by email, directing your student to view changes on Banner Web.
If your student received a letter indicating they were selected for verification, have they submitted the required documents?
Download the documents.
If your student accepted a Subsidized/Unsubsidized Direct Student Loan, did they complete the Direct Loan Entrance Counseling and submit the Direct Loan Master Promissory Note online at the
US Department of Education website?
If your student wants information about Alternative Loans, they can visit this
website.
If you accepted a Direct Parent Loan (PLUS) for your student, did you, the parent, go online and submit the
PLUS Application and Master Promissory Note for this loan? You must also submit a Direct PLUS Loan Supplemental Form found on the
Financial Aid Office website. Please return this form to Barb Zettel in the Financial Aid Office
If your student was awarded any outside scholarships, did they notify the
Financial Aid Office website? Outside scholarships will be divided between semesters and is the student’s responsibility to see that outside scholarships arrive on time.
If your student’s outside scholarships require a Verification of Enrollment, please submit a signed and dated Release of Information Consent Form found on
Documents & Forms on the
Financial Aid Office website. Please send this signed and dated form back to Wendy Alexander in the Financial Aid Office.
If your student accepted a Perkins or a Nursing Loan, they will receive an email from the Perkins/Nursing Loan Office in August explaining the requirements and how to sign electronically for the loan.
If your student was awarded a Washington State Need Grant or an Educational Opportunity Grant, did they sign the Student Directive? Please visit this
website.
RefundsRefund Request Forms can be downloaded on this
website or your student can come into the
Student Services Center. Processing for student account refunds begins after the 10th day of classes and continues throughout the semester.
Due to the heavy volume of requests at the beginning of each semester, your student should keep themselves financially prepared until your refund is processed.
If a student has a Parent Loan (PLUS) on their financial aid award, the parent borrowing the loan must also sign the form.
Student Employment/Career DevelopmentIs your student interested in a campus job? Job postings can be viewed online on the
Student Employment website!
There are forms that need to be completed prior to employment. The Federal I-9 Form with original identification must be presented to the employer and a Federal W-4 Form to indicate the amount of estimated taxes to be withheld from each paycheck.
Does your student know there are off-campus positions available in the community under the State Work Study Program?Does your student need help with a resume for employment? Visit the
Career Development website!
Plan for New Student Orientation! Residence Halls open at 9 am on Thursday, September 2 and Student Orientation events begin at 3:30 pm. Parents and families are invited for special programs on Thursday and Friday. Check out all the details on
orientation. On the site you will find the orientation schedule, information on local hotels and more!
