The current Publishing & Printing Arts (PPA) faculty consists of the program Director, Solveig Robinson, and book arts instructors Jessica Spring and Peter Temple-Thurston. All PPA faculty bring both publishing world experience and rigorous academic training to the PPA program. The PPA program also benefits from the expertise of occasional guest instructors and workshop leaders, as well as regular guest speakers from all aspects of the publishing world. |

Dr. Solveig Robinson
is the current Director and primary instructor of the Publishing &
Printing Arts program. She joined the PLU English faculty in 2001. In
addition to teaching The Book in Society and Publishing Procedures, she
also teaches a variety of courses in the English Department and in the
First-Year Experience at PLU. Solveig is Managing Editor of the scholarly journal Perspectives in Biology and Medicine, published by Johns Hopkins University Press, and Book Review editor of Victorian Periodicals Review, published by the University of Toronto Press. She is also the editor of the anthology A Serious Occupation: Literary Criticism by Victorian Women Writers (Broadview Press, 2003). In addition, Solveig serves as a manuscript reader and book reviewer for a number of publishers and scholarly journals. |

A recent transplant to the Northwest, Jessica Spring designs, prints, and binds artists' books featuring handmade paper and letterpress printing. Her small finely crafted editions consider historical topics and popular culture from a unique perspective. Jessica has an MFA from Columbia College Chicago Center for Book and Paper, and her work is featured in the collections of the University of Washington, the Newberry Library, Northwestern University, The Art Institute of Chicago, and Yale University. She is a recipient of the 2005 Tacoma Artists Initiative Program through the Tacoma Arts Commission. Jessica teaches the Art of the Book class. |
