Incompletes

An incomplete grade (I) indicates that a student did not complete required coursework in a class because of extenuating circumstances such as illness, death in the family, or military orders. Students may request an incomplete from their instructor when the situation warrants, but it is up to the instructor to allow this grade.. An incomplete does not entitle the student to later attend the class without registering again and payment of tuition.

The deadline for completion of incomplete grades for Fall and J-Term is the end of the sixth week following Spring Term. For incompletes from Spring and Summer terms, the deadline is the sixth week of the following Fall Term.

Please note: For students enrolled in the nursing program, the deadline for completion of incomplete contracts in Nursing is before the first day of classes of the following term.

Work must be submitted by students in time for instructors to meet these deadlines. Instructors are advised to consult with students on an appropriate time frame.

There is no penalty for an incomplete grade; however, an "I" will remain on the student's transcript in front of the letter grade earned. Thus, an A in the course will appear as "IA."

Incomplete contracts are processed by the Records Coordinator.  Contracts should be submitted to the Office of the Registrar immediately after you have assigned the "I" grade. If the student does not complete the work, the grade will be converted to the grade indicated on the contract. Contact Joann Nelson at 253.535.8877 for any questions on how to submit incomplete contracts. Incomplete contracts are located on the display wall across from the Student Services Center or may be downloaded. If no contract is submitted, a failing grade ("E") is the default grade.

To change an incomplete to a letter grade

To change the incomplete to a letter grade, submit a Change of Grade Report (available from the Registrar's Office) to the Registrar's Office or email the Records Coordinator, nelsonjf@plu.edu.

Deadlines

Incompletes from Spring and Summer terms are due six weeks into the Fall Semester. Fall and J-Term incompletes are due six weeks into the Spring Semester.
