How To Program

Programming 101

Ever wonder how RHA puts on all of their great programs you see throughout the year? Songfest, Miss Lute, and the Welcome Weekend Competition all take a lot of behind the scenes work to make them happen. Below you will find the procedure RHA follows while organizing these events. Hopefully this will help you on your way to programming success!

RHA Programs Procedure

Initiate: Present the idea during brainstorming sessions or ask for a specific agenda time to bring up a new programming idea. Remember that collaborative efforts between organizations work really well and can allow for larger programs that can have a larger effect on a larger group of people.

Develop: In developing the program idea, think of ways that you can make it the best program of its kind. Collaborating with another organization may give you more money to work with and different perspectives. Also, make sure to have the date, location and purpose on file with the Student Involvement and Leadership office by filling out a Planning Form.

Plan: Make lists of things that need to get done and when they need to be done by. Also, delegate tasks to make the program manageable. Don't delegate things that you wouldn't do yourself. Keep peoples' interests and levels of busyness into consideration.

Execute: Make sure to use other people if you need them. In getting the job done, make sure that everything is laid out ahead of time so that the program goes as smoothly as possible. Envision the program so that you try not to miss any details.

Evaluate: This could very well be the most important part of programming. Evaluating a program allows you to reflect over the program and pat yourself on the back for a job well done. It also allows you to think over what could have been done better. This will be a valuable resource for yourself, in considering if you were to do the same kind of program somewhere else during your life. It will also help the next person putting this program on to make decisions as to how best the program will run in the future. Evaluation sometimes has a unique role in initiating new and better ideas for other programs.
