Evidence-based practice

Program Outcome

   Provide evidence-based clinically competent
   care

 Elderly care

To date, the only competent nursing care I have had the opportunity to learn from was during my clinical rotation at Heartwood, a long-term care facility located in Tacoma, WA and Orchard Hills an adult day center.  During my spring NURS220 Competencies I class we learned the basics of patient care which included:

  • taking vital signs, how to properly give a bed bath, peri-care, etc.
  • how to build a trusting relationship with the patient by using therapeutic communication
  • the importance of touch therapy
Although my skills are in their infancy I am striving to learn as much as I can to build a stronger foundation.  I'm looking forward to clinical next spring where I'm hoping to gain an even more extensive knowledge base that I can apply on a daily basis.

Documentation of skills

The following list of documents provides insight to my current accomplishments, areas that I need to improve upon, and my thoughts on the previous clinical experience.
