Introduction

A little bit about me...  Waving nurse

Hello and thank you for visiting my website! My name is Monica Richardson and currently I am enrolled as a Sophomore II in the nursing program here at Pacific Lutheran. I am married and have a 17 year old stepson. My primary residence is in Cle Elum, WA but I reside three days a week in South Hall.
From a very young age I've always known that I wanted to hold a career in the medical profession. Long ago I had my heart set on becoming a neurosurgeon but not having the support of my family made it difficult for me to feel confident enough to attain that goal. So, like many others I ended up working several different jobs trying to find my place.
Then after sustaining an injury while working for King County I realized that my heart was still set on becoming a member of the medical profession. However I hadn't considered becoming a nurse until my husband suggested the idea and pointed out how much I enjoyed caring for others and that I was good at it. I realized then that nursing should have been an obvious choice all along, but I had to grow and gain experience before that realization became apparent. Now I am here at PLU. I am enjoying everything that the program affords and I cannot wait to earn my Registered Nurse (RN) status so that I can begin a new chapter in my life.

My definition of nursing

Below is what I feel are some of the important elements of the nursing profession.  This definition is further reinforced by the coat of arms that is available for view under the quick links tab located to the right.

"Nursing should encompass collaborative, compassionate care of all persons regardless of ethnicity, age, orientation, or community affiliation. Nursing should provide protection from illness or injury, advocacy, and promote trust between caretaker and patient"
