Why Study Scandinavian Studies or Norwegian?
- Cross-cultural perspectives: The courses in the program prepare you for work and life in the global community by challenging you to step out of your home culture and into the world of cultures surprisingly different from your own.
- Relevant topics in today's world: In learning the language of Norway, and the culture and literatue of Scandinavia, you are learning the approaches of small countries that play large international roles in peace negotiations, aid to developing nations, and artistic innovations in literature, art, music, architecture and more.
- Respect in the international arena: The Scandinavian countries are greatly repected internationally for their commitment and contributions in many fields, from politics to the environment, and from literature to health and education.
- Dynamic cultures: As rapidly changing cultures, the countries of Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden offer an intriguing laboratory for the study of integration and multiculturalism.
They continue to debate their role in an integrated Europe, and to
develop strategies to create peaceful multicultural societies.
- Unique skills and knowledge: Your major in Scandinavian Studies or Norwegian sets you apart from other job seekers, providing you with a set of skills, knowledge and perspectives that are transferrable to many job settings, and applicable to further study at the master's and Ph.D. level.
- Experienced and well-qualified faculty: The Scandinavian Studies faculty members are experienced scholars committed to quality teaching and to bringing up-to-date knowledge of Scandinavia to the classroom.

Scandinavia with other majors is a priority for the faculty in the
program.

experience and knowledge of Scandinavian Studies faculty and affiliated
faculty and advisors across the campus.
- Many co-curricular activities: Each year the
university presents a variety of cultural and academic events that
enrich students' learning about Scandinavia. Events include performances by top Scandinavian musicians, academic lectures by leading Scandinavian scholars, and meetings with national political leaders. Norskhuset,
