A Brief History

The South Sound Regional Science Fair began in 1998. Twelve teachers from Pierce and Thurston counties approached Pacific Lutheran University and requested that PLU host a regional science fair.

Since the South Sound Regional Science Fair (SSRSF) began, it has grown in the number of participants. In the first fair there were 110 projects, in 2008 there were over 500 students from Kindergarten to 12th grade with over 100 judges making the awards.

NEW FOR 2009

ISEF Forms for Grades 9-12 will be required in order for a project to be considered for the International Science and Engineering Fair. If you only want to be considered for awards at the South Sound Regional Science Fair, these forms are recommended but not required.

If you want to be considered for the International Science and Engineering Fair, all ISEF Forms (including an Abstract) necessary for your project must be submitted by Friday, March 6. See ISEF Rules Wizard and our Grades 9-12 Registration Page to determine what forms are needed. You may save the forms, type in the information, print, obtain the proper signatures, and mail to:

Intel LogoThe South Sound Regional Science Fair is affiliated with the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF) and each year the top two high school individual winners and the top team of two students qualify for airfare and accommodations and the chance to compete at ISEF. The Intel International Science and Engineering Fair is the world's largest pre-college celebration of science. Held annually in May, the Intel ISEF brings together nearly 1,500 students from more than 40 nations to compete for scholarships, tuition grants, internships, scientific field trips and the grand prize: a $50,000 college scholarship.
