Supporting your student's entry into the science fair can be a huge undertaking. The South Sound Regional Science Fair Program wishes to help you in any way possible. If you have any questions that are not answered to your satisfaction on this site please contact the director at colgansj@plu.edu.
The Parent's Role at the SSRSF:
- The parents are responsible for the entrant's transportation to and from the fair.
- For directions visit the "about the fair page," or to use map quest Directions to the South Sound Regional Science Fair.
- Make sure your child feels it is his or her project.
- Make sure the project is primarily the work of the child.
- Make sure to visit the Intel ISEF rules and regulations page to help your student's project conform with the requirements for the science fair.
- The SSRSF strives to recruit and train a group of highly qualified, motivated, and compassionate judges. The judges dedicate themselves to judging impartially and uniformly. Your consideration of this is appreciated. At your request, judging procedures will be explained; however, judging of specific projects will not be explained. In all cases the decisions of the judges are final.
- Parents and adult friends of the exhibitors are invited to view the exhibits but should not interfere while judges are interviewing students. Where judging teams are interviewing an entrant at his or her exhibit, please respect their need for quiet and privacy. If it interferes with the judging, this privilege may be suspended at any time.
- The main goal of a science fair project is to help your child use and strengthen the skills he or she has learned and develop higher level skills. The main goal should not be the prize.
- Students will be released by grade when all the judging is complete for the grade. Your patience is appreciated.
- Being a volunteer organization the SSRSF depends heavily on volunteers prior to and during the fair. Volunteers are also needed throughout the year for various tasks and projects. If you are interested in volunteering please contact the director at colgansj@plu.edu.
- A list of local area restaurants will be provided at registration, there are limited vending machines available in the auditorium. Parents are encouraged to pack snacks or plan to eat off campus as the schedule allows.
