Fund Raising Ideas

Here are a number of different ideas to get you started as you brainstorm fundraising ideas. When planning a fundraiser keep the following things in mind:

  • Relevancy-people want to contribute when there is clear purpose
  • Collaborating with another group will increase your productivity

Fundraising Ideas

Candy and a Note Through Campus Mail
Candy Hearts with a heart shaped note on construction paper at Valentines Day.  Candy Canes during December attach a tree or star shaped note.  Make up any reason for sending special notes and treats, for example, “I love my roommate / wingmate week,” or “PLU students are nifty day”

Finals Week Care Packages
Campus mail goodie bags with motivational quotes, study tips, apples (or other cheap healthy treat), balloons, marbles

Car Wash
Traditional way to earn some extra money! Offer a special service, say for five dollars you will sing while you wash their car or vacuum the inside. Have a polaroid or digital camera around, offer to take a picture of the car owner with their freshly washed vehicle for a nominal donation!

Dog Wash/Walking
Dog Day Care! Offer to walk dogs or give them a bath. Set up your own Dog Park for the day!

Have an Auction
Be creative! Before Homecoming or Winter Ball, consider auctioning off Dates! Auction off your Kitchen cleaning skills to an off-campus student. Are there any artists in your group? Sell their creations (be sure to give that person a special thank you). Look through your closet for special treasures.

Flower Sales
Carnations are cheap and last a while. Sell them at Graduation, Theater performances, or Sporting events.

Singing Telegrams During Dead Week
This could work if there is performing talent in your group! You don’t even need to sing- a lip sync with choreography could be just as entertaining.

Finals Week Stress Release
Organize late night study breaks with special features! Pillow fights, balloon popping, all campus yells. Set out a bucket for donations.

Twister Tournament
Adults playing Twister is great! Develop new ways to make the game more profitable! Have different participation donations for players and callers. Give the caller the ability to make up new rules. For extra money, allow players to pass on certain moves.

Faculty and Staff Fun
Involve faculty and staff in your fundraising efforts! Have those fun loving folks agree to do silly things, so your club or organization can make money. Sing the fight song, participate in relays, fashion shows, or water balloon fights!

Something a Thon

Have a walk a thon, dance a thon, jump rope a thon, etc. Find people to sponsor you.

Finals Week Wake Up Calls
For a nominal fee offer to call students and remind them to wake up for their final, to get in some extra study time, or to take a break from their studies!

Alumni Solicitation
Has your student group been around for a while? Send out letters or call alumni, let them know about traditions you have been maintaining, or new traditions you are beginning.

Recycle for a Profit
Ask an area business to save their plastics, glass, and aluminum for the weekend. Offer to pick it up early Monday morning and take it to the Recycling Center.

Coat Check
When there is a dance, concert, or other large event being sponsored by PLU, see if your group can organize a coat check, charge $1 per item being checked. Check with local city groups and offer your service at charity events or dinners. Make sure someone keeps an eye on everything during the event!

Timely Card Service

Make, sell, and send greeting cards! Make your own generic cards or provide supplies for quick and easy construction. Around Mother’s Day (or special day of choice) set up a table with construction paper, markers, glue, stickers, etc. and have people make a card for their Mom or other honored guardian. Have stamped envelopes available to be addressed and mail them off.

Balloon Pop

Have a prize for whoever pops the special balloon. Charge a fee to pop a balloon, in each balloon include a fact about your club or organization.

Celebrity Photos

Get cutouts of famous people and charge people to have their pictures taken with them. At holidays use some theme to sell your pictures, Santa at Christmas, a tree on Earth Day.

Casual Dress

Have different departments on campus agree to collect a dollar or two one day each month in exchange for the opportunity to dress in casual attire for the day.

School Break Services

If members of your club are in the area over break, offer to water plants and feed fish for students who are going away. For students who live off campus but will be away for the holiday, offer to pick up newspapers and mail.

Fall Opening Move In Services

Work with nearby retailers to offer products ON CAMPUS that students moving into the residence halls need! The possibilities are endless-carpet remnants, storage bins, lamps, tool kits, etc.
