How Do I Table in the New UC?With the new re-design, gone is the table thoroughfare lining the
"in and out" door of the UC Commons. This fall, an Ad Hoc Committee of
students from ASPLU, RHA, Diversity Center, Campus Ministry and Clubs and Orgs formed to look at tabling strategies and advertising tactics for the new space. The new University Center Tabling Policy
was crafted to account for safety concerns, create equity and access to
the system, and to optimize advertising opportunities for events on
campus. Effective J-Term of 2008, the new Tabling Policy outlines three areas where students can advertise at all meals. University Center Tabling Policy Tabling in the UC is located in these areas and under the following provisions: 2.) The upper floor -- beside the south stairway near the Commons exit. 3.) The upper floor – on the first three permanent wall-mounted tables beside the Commons entrance 4.) Groups interested in tabling must use the Event Planning Form, found on the SIL website. 5.) Accommodations will be considered for special circumstances. Please speak with Lace M. Smith, SIL Program Coordinator -- Clubs and Organizations, for more information. Top Three Tabling Tips1.) Reserve your table early with Conferences and Events!Take your completed Event Planning Form to Conferences and Events (UC 202, www.plu.edu/~events) to reserve a table for club or organization at least one week before you would like to advertise. Requests made less than one week in advance are not guaranteed to be filled. 2.) Be active in the space! Don't sit behind the table, kick back and wait for the hoards to come to you. Take some time to be creative about your display, flyers and giveaways. This is your opportunity to get the community excited about your event...and get them to remember the date of your event! 3.) Table more than just the day of your event! Paired with a planned advertising strategy, tabling is a very effective way to promote your event with face-to-face contact! Take time to advertise your event two weeks out, so, when you table in the UC... people are not surprised that your event is happening but can take the time to ask that question they had when they saw your poster, or advertisement in the Daily Flyer. Show people how much you are invested by giving them time to become invested in what your club or organization is trying to accomplish, too! |
