Ronny's Portfolio

The Core Competencies in the syllabus include: skills in written and oral communication, critical thinking, and interpersonal relationships.

I chose to talk about critical thinking. As defined by Webster's Online Dictionary, critical thinking can be defined as the mental process of acquiring information, then evaluating it to reach a logical conclusion or answer. Critical thinking is synonymous with informal logic. Increasingly, educators believe that schools should focus more on critical thinking than on memorization of facts.

As it is clearly stated in the Business 190/201 syllabus, critical thinking is of value in core competencies. Therefore, I feel the need to broaden my ability to think critically. Thinking critically would not entail copying answers verbatim from the text. Critical thinking would be incorporation the actual information supplied from the text lecture, and applying the knowledge obtained to your personal viewpoint and making an answer or response your own. So by separating personal time, and dedicating productive time, I will be able to broaden my horizons when it comes to thinking critically, and form my own viewpoints on the information given.
