Constance Evans: In Search of the Desert
Over the last thirty years, Constance Evans’ work has evolved from large color-field paintings evoking calm boundlessness to representational works influenced by the aura of specific places and moments, particularly those of the southwestern desert and the drama of its ever-changing skies. Constance Evans will present a slide show and discussion/lecture of her work in digital photography. In conjunction with the slide show, her work will be displayed in the University Gallery February 20 - March 20. The objects in her University Gallery exhibition are part of the journey – in search of “poustinia”, a Russian word meaning “desert” – not the geographical connotation, but rather the place of silence and solitude to find the peace within.
