The YMCA’s of Pierce County offer many programs relating to adaptive physical education. These programs offer students volunteer and observation opportunities within the adaptive fitness classes. There are four YMCA’s within Pierce County. Each site offers many different adaptive physical activities and programs such as Water Aerobics, adaptive aquatics, healthy back classes, cardiac / stroke fitness, Bone builders (osteoporosis), senior strength training, and Cancer/Nutrition (health awareness).

Adaptations include: Arthritis, adult cerebral palsy, osteoporosis, and cardiac rehabilitation. The Observation/ Volunteer times and dates - varies depending on program and site. For example, the Lakewood YMCA family branch offers adaptive aquatics M, T, R, 3-3:30pm * and Arthritis classes on M, W, F at 1-1:45pm*. Some adaptive classes require medical referrals before participation in the classes. Please check programs and classes for individual requirements.

Overall, The YMCA’s of Pierce County offer many adaptive physical education and fitness opportunities for the public and those with special needs along with great opportunities for student learning within the world of adaptive physical education.
