In the following pages of this website, you are going to learn a little bit about chinampa agriculture and how it compares with other forms of agriculture found throughout the Valley of Mexico during the time of the Aztec Empire.
In the above map, Lake Xochimilco and Lake Chalco are the two of the five lakes that were able to sustain a large amount of chinampas. This was because they were to only two fresh water lakes of the Basin of Mexico lake system.
