NORW 301 Composition & Conversation
This course deals with conversation and composition writing in advanced
Norwegian. In order to have something to write and speak about,
we will read a number of Norwegian texts. This is also, of
course, an excellent way to learn new vocabulary and language usage
forms. To give focus, cohesion, and interest to the semester, we will
concentrate on representations of women in Norwegian texts from the
last 30 years.
Upon completion of this course students should be able to:
- Hold relatively sophisticated academic conversations in Norwegian (bokmål):
- Write shorter academic essays in bokmål;
- Understand some spoken dialect and nynorsk;
- Read contemporary bokmål and nynorsk at an advanced level; and
- Demonstrate college-level understanding of the ways in which
language and discourse construct our understandings of ourselves and
others, particularly in relation to gender.
