Coat of Arms

Coat of Arms     My coat of arms demonstrates some of the values and beliefs I hold to be true for my future nursing career. The first of these is compassion, demonstrated by the intertwined hands. I believe compassion to be at the root of quality nursing practice; without compassion nurses cannot have empathy, understanding or client-centered care. Along with client-focused care, it is important to have client-involved care. The nurse and client are a team; they work together with the client's needs and opinions in mind, to create and meet outcomes. Nursing is a multidimensional "hands-on" process. It involves dedication, education, collaboration and a passion for people. This is represented by the "hands-on" picture on my coat of arms. Lastly, my coat of arms includes an image representing acceptance, which I think is one of the most important values to be cognizant of while providing care to diverse individuals that will have different lifestyles, beliefs and values from my own.

My Definition of Nursing

A nurse is an individual who is attuned to physical, spiritual and psychological human needs in order to compassionately care for others. Nurses listen to and advocate for their patients, promote health and work to prevent illness through their knowledge of human physiology and processes of healing.
