Kajsa Swenson's Nursing Portfolio

Responsibility and Accountability

Objective:

Assume responsibility and accountability for professional practice.

Accountability

Responsibility and Accountability

Responsibility and accountability are so intrinsic to a career in nursing, that we were required to demonstrate this before we began the program. All of our health records and immunizations had to be updated and on file to show that we were responsible and accountable for our own health. We also needed CPR, AIDS and HIPPA certification before beginning clinicals. I was able to successfully complete these requirements and am now responsible for updating them when necessary. In Nursing 220, I was also held accountable for all of the tasks I performed at Tacoma Lutheran. Each of the four nursing classes I've taken so far have taught and required responsibility and accountability for professionalism. Although I have only completed one clinical segment where I was able to demonstrate my professional practice, my other three classes have involved group work. In working with my cohort on class projects, I have been held responsible and accountable for my portion of the work.

Accountability and Responsibility in the Future

I am held professionally accountable and responsible for everything I do in the school of nursing from every email I send to every task I perform. I envision demonstration of professional practice as being a common theme and evaluated aspect of my progress throughout the remainder of my courses in the nursing program as well as in my future nursing career.
