The Man, The Myth, The Legend

Who was this historically famous man?  Have you ever heard of him?  Well, if you were Miss Herron's math class you would.  We just completed a project featuring non other than Mr. Pythagoras himself.  Not only is his theorem amazing, but the details of his life are even more interesting. He wasn't the traditional 6th century man.  His mother was Phoenician and his father was Greek.  His father was a stonecutter, so his family was not very poor.  Pythagoras was born on the island of Samos.  As he grew older he traveled the world seeking knowledge.  He was one of those people who just couldn't get enough information about everything!  He studied under a number of radical thinkers of the day.  He studied under the Greek Thales, who was at the time discovering what later turned out to be the beginnings of Geometry.  Pythagoras traveled to Babylon, Egypt and nearly everywhere there was knowledge to be learned.  Through all of this traveling and life experience we became elated to genius status.  After Pythagoras created his theorem and joined a number worshiping cult he gathered great esteem with others.  Some referred to him as the son of Apollo because of his wisdom.  By: Kate Herron
