Welcome to my Digital Portfolio! This portfolio demonstrates my progress through the nursing program to obtain a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Pacific Lutheran University. Each page is designed to demonstrate how I have accomplished each learning outcome of the SoN program. ![]() About Me My name is Molly Tonder, and I am a senior at Pacific Lutheran University. More specifically, though, I am a nursing student about to graduate after four years of hard work! It has been a long, tough ride, but I would be lying if I said I didn't enjoy most of it. There were certainly the days when I wondered "Is it really worth all of this?" (especially last semester - biggest time commitment outside of class of my life!); but I've enjoyed the learning, clinical practice, and everything that goes into becoming a nurse. I've also made some lifelong friends here at PLU, and I couldn't have made it through these years without them and without the help and support of my family. At PLU I was involved with the swim team for 2.5 of my 4 years and had some of the best times of my life. I was also involved on campus as a resident assistant for 2 years, and I really enjoyed helping new students adjust to college life since I'd had such a great experience in my early years here. My hobbies outside of school include exercising, traveling, and spending time with my family and friends. I hope to incorporate these into my life as a nurse! I have been all over the world in the past 6 years. I am currently training for my first triathlon in August 2010.
Future Professional Goals » One year plan - As I'm approaching licensure and starting my professional practice, this one year mark seems intimidating - but then, I never thought I'd make it through four years of college either! In one year I will be nearing the completion of my first year as an RN on a medical/surgical unit and gaining time management and prioritization skills as I transition from a resident with a mentor to an individually-practicing RN.» Five year plan - Within 1-2 years of practicing on a medical/surgical unit, I will have made the decision on whether or not I will make the switch to emergency department. At this point I'd like to, but I plan to go with the flow and see where nursing takes me early in my career. At five years I hope to be in a comfortable job that I love, wherever that happens to be. » Ten year plan - At ten years, if not before, I hope to be in a position in my career and social life that allows me to take a bit of time off to start a family. This will be only a break, as I hope to continue my nursing career long after that. |
Why do I want to be a nurse? I chose nursing as a career because of an infamous historical interpretation: "Medicine provides the CURE, and nursing the CARE." I'm not exactly sure at what point in my life I decided I wanted to become a nurse, but I believe it has a lot to do with numerous family members struggling with chronic illnesses and their experiences with nurses that really made an impact upon them. I believe that nursing is an opportunity to touch people's lives and make them feel more comfortable as well as empowered even when they are at some of the worst points in their lives.
