Internship Opportunities

Voices Against Violence (VAV) offers internship opportunities and customizes the internship to met your needs and interests.  In the past, Social Work interns have worked on improving the website, creating public relations materials and organizing awareness campaigns.  Contact Jennifer Warwick to discuss how you can enhance your academic experience and develop professional skills through an internship.

Volunteer Opportunities

VAV encourages students, staff and faculty to explore new interests and share their passion and talents by volunteering with VAV.  We offer a variety of opportunities for involvement, with different time commitments and areas of concentration.  The volunteer program is designed to be flexible and we enourage individuals to define their own experiences.  We work with our volunteers to accommodate their needs, whether they help with one special event or volunteer every week.

Sexual Assault Peer Education Team (SAPET)

SAPET members promote awareness of sexual assault by presenting information to their peers in classes, resident halls and other student settings. SAPET provides a rich and unique experience, and is one of the few peer education programs that exists at colleges of comparable size and scope to PLU.

SAPET raises awareness & facilitates dialog on:

  • Issues of sexual communication on college campuses
  • Role of alcohol in sexual relations
  • Personal safety
  • Empathy and support for survivors of sexual assault
Contact SAPET by emailing the coordinators Tara Fouts and Kasey Zink at sapet@plu.edu

Men Against Violence (MAV) & M.A.P.P.E.

PLU's Men Against Violence program purpose is to address and discuss the issues of safety and prevention of men's violence against women, and also to explore ideas of masculinity. MAV holds various campus events and discussions.

Men Against Violence Program goals:
  • Engage men as partners in the prevention of violence against women
  • Create and maintain a safe space to discuss issues of masculinity
  • Support women and men in prevention related efforts
  • Improve safety through the prevention of gendered violence
  • Demonstrate that violence against women is a men's issue too
  • Recognize the mis-education regarding masculinity and expand on the definition of masculinity
Contact MAV by emailing Jonathan Grove, MAV Coordinator,  or Matt Dreiling, MAPPE (Men As Partners Promoting Equality) leader.
