Casey Family Programs

Provides long term foster care and family support services. Casey Family Programs has a proven record in making a difference in the lives of children, youth, and families.

Catholic Community Services

  • Supervise visits between foster children and their birth families.
  • Provide chore assistance to elderly and disabled individuals.
  • Become a mentor for an at-risk youth.
  • Provide office assistance to a program. Assist with a phone network to answer questions about adoption.
  • Transport clients to an from appointments.
  • Join the CCS legislative network.
  • Assist with fundraising activities such as writing grants or special events.
  • Provide teacher assistance at the day care centers.
  • Sponsor a food drive for elderly, housebound, long-term care clients on special diets.
  • Sponsor a holiday party for a program’s client.
  • Plan activities and spend time with the seniors at the Point Defiance Ruston Senior Center.
  • Build adaptive equipment, such as a wheelchair ramp, for disabled or elderly clients.

Child Abuse Prevention Resources

Volunteer in their core programs:
  • Parenting Plus: A parenting education experience for the entire family.
  • Home Visitor Program: Work with a paraprofessional to assist parents in their own homes to develop skills that will allow them to face the day-to-day challenges of parenting.
  • Esteem Teams: Promote healing and growth for children that have been sexually abused.
  • Prevention Education: Provide community education and training on issues related to child abuse, prevention, intervention, and treatment.

Department of Social and Health Service (DSHS)

Work with the Respite Program (AKA: “home aid” or “family support”), to support families in their role of caring for their children who have disabilities.
Many other opportunities are also available to assist in the aid of children.

East Campus / Parkland Family Support Center

Volunteer to help with their family services: Health education, assessments, family advocate support, Mother Goose, resource referral, family counseling, parenting information, healthy families, MOMS / Women’s Recovery, women only support group, and parenting classes.

Help connect families with child care, education and job training, employment, networking opportunities, transportations and local resources.

Part of Children’s Home Society. Be a home visitor. Get involved with other ways to help and work with parents, children, and families.

Family Renewal Shelter

Help people in a confidential, safe shelter, to provide food and clothing, support groups for women and children, obtaining education, job training, and long-term housing, and provide legal advocacy.

Franciscan Health System

Improving Care Through the End of Life: Volunteers are assigned to help reach out to patient and family, making contact at least once a month and alert nurses when community resources need to be coordinated.

Intercommunity Family Shelter Network

Provide food, shelter, and compassion, along with sharing your time, energy, and financial resources. Be there for the families, as you not only cook and clean for them but hug crying children and join them in arts and crafts.

Junior League of Tacoma

Join an organization of women, dedicating their time to promoting volunteerism to improve the community through effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. The focus of the program is on supporting family programs.

Postpartum Support International

The Postpartum Support International phone line is currently looking for volunteers to return phone calls to new families needing support and information regarding mood disorders following the birth or adoption of a child. This is a great opportunity for nursing students interested in working with families affected by postpartum mood disorders.
