New Passport Requirement for Travel in the Western Hemisphere
Beginning June 1, 2009
- U.S. citizens entering the United States at sea or land ports of entry are
required to have documents that comply with the Western Hemisphere Travel
Initiative (WHTI), most commonly a U.S. passport, a passport card, a trusted
traveler card such as NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST, or an enhanced driver's license. Click here for more information.
Global Scholars Awards
Awards from the new endowment fund to increase study abroad opportunities to support students with high financial need are being offered for the first time in the 2009-10 academic year. Preference for these awards, intended to increase access to study abroad for students who would otherwise not be able to participate in such an opportunity, is given to students that have been fully accepted to participate in a PLU Gateway program. Generally the Global Scholars Awards are not granted to students on third-party provider programs. Students on third-party provider programs are encouraged to speak with their Study Away Advisor about other scholarship opportunities, and especially those offered through their program provider.
Changes in the PLU Study Away Policies
Effective with the 2009-10 academic year, the following policies pertain:
PLU students may use their PLU merit gift aid on any PLU Gateway or Featured (ILACA and LCCT) program, but may take such aid on only one non-PLU program, i.e. a third party provided program (e.g. CIEE, IES, SFS, SIT, etc).
For students participating in third party provider programs, the International Program Administrative Fee is now $1,500 per semester. The administrative fee has not risen in more than 5 years, and is still a bargain for the support each student is provided and the experience that is gained from participating in study away.
