The Godmaking of the Skies and the Earth

A gospel, doo-wop, rock setting of Genesis for mixed choir, a cappella.
Written in 1988 for Richard Sparks and the Pacific Lutheran University Choir of the West.
Duration: 14min.

NOTES
The Godmaking of the Skies and the Earth is a musical setting of the remarkable translation by Harris Lenowitz of the "Priestly Genesis" text of the Hebrew P document- Genesis 1.1 - 2.4a, dating from about 500 B.C. Lenowitz's intention was to create an earthy, vernacular rendition to simulate the earthy quality of the early Hebrew text. The musical language was chosen to reinforce this earthy quality.

The text is used by permission of the author and can be found in "Origins- Creation Texts from the Ancient Mediterranean," by Harris Lenowitz and Charles Doria, published by AMS Press, 1976.
