Sound Tracks: Seven Themes in Search of a Plot (after Pirandello) is a series of character studies that explore different ensemble groupings within the standard woodwind quintet. The players are invited to imagine themselves as characters in a scene during each movement. Players do not necessarily remain the same character throughout the seven scenes. Melodrama is essential, and most particularly in the dramatic moments leading up to the excruciating death of the bassoonist in movement six. Then of course, the cavalry arrive…
