A song cycle for soprano voice and piano
Commissioned in 2000 by the Washington State Music Teachers' Association
Duration: 20min.
NOTES Bringing In The Tides was written to provide the soprano
vocal repertoire with some accessible songs based on serious feminist poetry.
The cycle journeys from the early 20th century to the end, from "women's work" to
childbirth, and from anger to laughter to thoughtful self-acceptance. Poets include
Hazel Hall, Adrienne Rich, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Mari Evans, Ruth Whitman, Sylvia
Plath, and Tess Gallagher.
