NOTES O, Trinidad presents a musical journey through
the history of Trinidad and Tobago, the southern-most islands of the Caribbean.
Kalenda is a martial art practiced by slaves closely associated with resistance
against slavery. Calypso is a Carnival song form that emerged in the early 20th
century. Frequently both joyous and political, it is associated with Trinidad's
struggle against colonial oppression. Soca (Soul-Calypso) is a late 20th century
dance music that accompanies the masquerade bands in the streets at Carnival time.

Required: 2 hands drums, high and low. These may be congas, djembes or any
other hand drums of lower pitch.
Optional: Chac-chacs (Maracas)

Orff Instruments or Pans (Steel Drums) may also be used, doubling chords and/or bass lines.
