NOTES
O, Trinidad presents a musical journey through the history of Trinidad and Tobago, the southern-most islands of the Caribbean. Kalenda is a martial art practiced by slaves closely associated with resistance against slavery. Calypso is a Carnival song form that emerged in the early 20th century. Frequently both joyous and political, it is associated with Trinidad's struggle against colonial oppression. Soca (Soul-Calypso) is a late 20th century dance music that accompanies the masquerade bands in the streets at Carnival time.
