Here are some timely career tips for juniors:

By now, you have chosen your major and might be spending a semester studying abroad. Make the most of that time to gain some international perspective. Employers recognize the value of exposure to different cultures, so soak it in. Can you incorporate an internship into your Study Away experience? All the better.

Internships are even more critical at this stage, and many companies start the hiring process in the fall. Update your resume, hone your answer to the query “So tell me about yourself” and create a LinkedIn profile.

Attend a career fair. Companies that want to hire PLU students come to campus. Career Connections offers general career and internship fairs as well as smaller, targeted ones throughout the year. Get experience talking with recruiters, and learn about employers.

Get serious about your networking. Hate small talk? Are you terrified of walking into a room of strangers? We can help. Attend our networking workshops and learn how to make the most of meeting people. Career Connections hosts a number of networking events every year: some on campus and some in Seattle, Tacoma and other locales.

Keep working on your skill development. Where are the gaps? Come talk to a career counselor and get a plan.

Is graduate school a possibility? This is the time to research schools and programs and prepare for the GRE, MCAT, LSAT and other necessary tests. We can help you explore your options and help with your applications.
