I have two bits of exciting news for you, first I would like to introduce to you our new VetCorps Navigator for the 2017-2018 school year Mr. Mike Tryon. Many of you already know Mike so I will just say that as a veteran and recent graduate of PLU Mike is well equipped to meet the challenges of providing support and resource connectivity to our Military Affiliated Student (MAS) population.

And second we have a new MAS Resource Center! (Hauge rm 107) In it students will find room for approximately 6-8 people to: hang out, access resources, study, take a nap, or socialize with fellow MAS. It also houses our new VetCorps Navigator Office and a new office for the Director of Military Outreach.

The student space has a microwave, coffee maker, mini-fridge, couch, chairs, a photo wall, and a ceiling border where veterans can put up combat patches and name tapes (a tradition in some facilities used by veterans.) I have requested some additional furniture and equipment which the PLU Student Veterans Association (SVA) has identified as being appropriate for making the space welcoming and comfortable. President Belton has stated that he would like to see the space furnished before the start of the semester.

We are a very unique university in that we have two MAS Resource Centers. Most schools only have one "Vet Center." Our Kreidler Lounge is the other, and is a larger "Community" Space where we will hold educational briefings, Student Veterans Association meetings, and special events.

This space is shared with transfer and resident students and as such will serve to connect MAS with traditional students. In this space students will find a full kitchen, ADA ramp access, couches, tables, chairs, computers, TV, and a fireplace! The SVA will be seeking a grant through the national SVA and Home Depot to furnish and better equip the Kreidler Lounge.

Please stop in and visit your new MAS Resource Center in Hauge Room 107 soon!
