Named Endowments

The minimum amounts required for named endowments include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Endowed Regents’ , Harstad Founder’s, or President’s Merit Scholarship

Regents’, Harstad Founder’s, and President’s Merit Scholarships are among the most prestigious awards PLU offers. These awards are given to students with exceptional academic and leadership performance and potential. A Regents’ Scholarship provides full tuition, while Harstad Founder’s and President’s Scholarships provide a significant portion of tuition. 2. Endowed Scholarship

A named endowment fund may be established to provide financial support to a student for the pursuit of educational and study away opportunities offered by Pacific Lutheran University. Recipients of named scholarships shall be selected through PLU’s regular financial aid administrative procedures. Named Endowed Scholarships begin at $25,000.

3. Endowed Internship

A named endowment fund may be established to provide financial support to a student pursuing an internship experience during their time at PLU. Recipients of named internships are selected through PLU’s regular financial aid administrative procedures, with input from Career Connections. Named Endowed Internships begin at $25,000.

4. Endowed School

A named endowment fund may be established to provide substantial continuing operational funding for a particular professional school of Pacific Lutheran University. The current PLU professional schools include the School of Art and Communication, the School of Business, the School of Education and Kinesiology, and the School of Nursing. Named Endowed Schools begin at $10,000,000.

5. Endowed Academic Department

A named endowment fund may be established to provide substantial continuing operational funding for a particular academic department or division of the university. Named Endowed Academic Departments begin at $5,000,000.

6. Endowed Technology Fund

A named endowment fund may be established to provide annual income restricted to the expansion and upgrading of PLU’s computer and other instructional technology as part of the university’s commitment to offer the latest in technological advances to its students and faculty. Named Endowed Technology Funds begin at $500,000.

7. Endowed Research Fund(s) in an Academic Discipline

A named endowment fund may be established to further research in a particular field or discipline. Varying levels of funding allow for different possibilities.

8. Endowed Library Fund – $25,000

A named endowment fund may be established to provide annual revenues for the purchase of books, journals, and/or other instructional media by the PLU library. Named Endowed Library Funds begin at $25,000.

9. Endowed Chair

A named endowment fund may be established to permanently support a faculty position and advance the body of knowledge in a particular field of study. Named Endowed Chairs begin at $2,000,000

10. Endowed Professorship

A named endowment fund may be established to permanently support a faculty position and advance the body of knowledge in a particular field of study. Named Endowed Professorships begin at $1,000,000

11. Endowed Visiting Scholar

A named endowment fund may be established to provide salary, benefits and related expenses to cover the costs of appointing a visiting scholar for a period of up to one academic year. Named Endowed Visiting Scholars begin at $1,000,000

12. Endowed Faculty Development Grant

A named endowment fund may be established to provide funding for one faculty member to undertake a special, approved faculty development activity such as taking a sabbatical leave, writing a professional book or articles, enrolling for an advanced course or seminar, coordinating a joint faculty-student research project, etc. Named Endowed Faculty Development Grants begin at $50,000
