Responsibilities

Karmen advises PLU students and alumni on career development through major exploration, strategies for job searches, application material revisions, and applying to graduate school. She strives to empower students with skills and tools that will help them succeed. She supervises the Career Peer Educators, student workers that advise on resume and cover letter writing. She also oversees the Lutes of Color, Natural Sciences, Economics, and Kinship Mentoring programs, as well as the Job Shadow Program.

Biography

Karmen comes with several years of experience working in Career Services. When she was a sophomore at Ithaca College in upstate New York, she was a Peer Career Advisor for the career services office. She then transferred to Seattle Pacific University, where she continued working in career services and helped start a Peer Career Advisor program there. She returned to that same office after acquiring her Masters degree to work as a Career Counselor.

She grew up in Seattle and has lived there most of her adult life. Outside of work, she enjoys playing basketball, biking, road trips, spending time with family and friends, walking her dog, and reading a good book.
