At approximately 7:15am Campus Safety received reports of what sounded like gunfire near campus. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Department was already in the area and began to investigate immediately. Initial reports suggest an incident involving gunfire occurred on Garfield street.

Police investigation is still underway, but all indications are that involved subjects have left the area. Stay in Place will remain in effect until further conclusions are drawn and communicated to Campus Safety by PCSD.

At 7:50am after an extensive search of the area the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department has confirmed that the subjects associated with the inciting incident fled the area immediately following the conflict. The incident appears isolated and there is not a danger to the campus community. There is no indication that involved parties are associated with PLU.

    Police are patrolling the area around campus seeking to identify involved parties. Stay in Place remains in effect.

    PCSD is still conducting checks of the area. There has been no clear resolution to the search for suspects. Stay in Place remains in effect.

    The Pierce County Sheriff's Department has given the all clear. The suspects are confirmed as having fled the area. Stay in Place is lifted.
