Researching Employers

Another approach to finding a job or learning about a particular company or industry is to look for lists or directories of a particular city or counties’ employers.  You can approach this through a chamber of commerce membership directory, through a local newspaper, e.g. the Tacoma News Tribune publishes a list annually of the top employers in Tacoma.  Then you have names of companies that you can read about on their respective websites.

You can also visit national associations with in a particular field, (some are listed on Wois.org under the specific occupation) and find out information about which employers are respected.

Informational interviewing, job shadowing and volunteering can also give you a glimpse into an organization.

Be creative, you can learn about employers through the internet, networking, mentors, professors, etc.
