The Ruth Anderson Public Debate pairs experts with debaters to discuss contemporary issues. In our polarized society, does it make sense to bargain away some of our principles to work with other sides or stick to values and go it alone.

Mariah CollierIn her sixth year as a competitive debater, Collier is in her junior year at PLU majoring in business finance and economics.

Hans ZeigerHans Zeiger began representing Pierce County residents in 2011, serving three terms in the state House of Representatives before 25th District voters elected him to the Washington State Senate in 2016.

Tate Adams, opposing the resolution

Tate AdamsIn their seventh year as a competitive debater, PLU junior Adams is majoring in political science and communication and minoring in sociology.

Matt Manweller, oppositing the resolution

Matt took office representing the 13th Legislative District in December of 2012. He is also a professor at Central Washington University (CWU) where he teaches Political Science and Constitutional Law.
