Alumni Discounts & Opportunities with Continuing Education

Just because you’ve finished your degree doesn’t mean you have to stop learning and growing with PLU. Stay connected with a community that espouses lifelong learning through Continuing Education.

Building on long-standing programming for nurses and educators through the Center for Continued Nursing Learning and Partnerships & Professional Development, the Center for Graduate and Continuing Education is developing programs for working professionals in all industries to gain new skills and explore potential new career paths.  Read on to learn about new programming and discounts available for PLU alums.  Click “Join Our Mailing List” to request more information and stay in the loop or propose a course in your area of expertise.

Courses and Certificates

Continuing Education at PLU serves the university’s mission by developing and executing continuing education and lifelong learning opportunities for industry professionals and community members in collaboration with academic departments and institutional partners.  The Certificate in Maritime Management is a prime example of this approach and programming.

The Certificate in Maritime Management was offered for the first time in January 2016 with participants ranging from logistics professionals to teachers and maritime enthusiasts.  It will be offered again at the end of September, with a special discount for PLU alumni.  Enter the code MM-ALUM at registration and receive $70 off standard course tuition.  Discounts are also available for organizations who want to send multiple employees through the course.

Workshops and Events

Continuing Education also provides opportunities for people to make connections and dig into a topic for an evening or a weekend.  Music Industry Careers: In Conversation and In Concert combines an evening of live performance and artist interviews with a networking mixer.  Attendees hear from and interact with music industry professionals to learn the industry’s intersection with everything from art and design to math and sociology.

In Maximizing Your Impact with Social Media, participants learn how to use social media in a professional and ethical manner.  The one-day workshop overviews the social media landscape and several case studies on their effective use.   Each participant crafts their goals for using social media, identifies a target audience, and then designs a basic strategy for reaching that audience through the appropriate channels.  PLU alum Cathy (Britt) Morris (‘07) guides participants using her experience as the Digital Communications Manager at the Burke Museum in Seattle and the lessons learned through her degrees in Communication and Digital Media.

Proposals for events and workshops are always welcome.  Future workshops under consideration include film and video production (from SOAC’s Dr. Robert Wells), project management, and screenwriting.
