J-Term Book Group

J-Term Book Group 2019

J-Term Book Group is an opportunity for students, faculty, and staff to participate in pertinent dialogue outside of the classroom setting. The book group is meant to foster critical discussion that both challenges and deepens one’s understandings of identity, power and oppression amongst other topics.

After receiving input from the PLU community, the book “Dear America: Notes of an Undocumented Citizen” by Jose Antonio Vargas. This book is a memoir about the experiences of the author as he made the transition from living in Philippines to living in the United States of America. Rather than be a book discussing the politics of immigration, this book delves into the real life experiences of families as they navigate the system that is the US. At the heart this book is about “what it means to not have a home.”

By signing up and committing to the meetings each participant will receive a copy of the book!

J-Term Book Group is put on by the Diversity Center and funded through ASPLU. Registration opens November 7th and closes November 26th.
