Students of Color Retreat
September 14, 4pm – 15 6pm at Camp Arnold
The Students of Color Retreat (SOCR) is an annual retreat for students who identify as students of color or non white identify students. This is a space to explore cultural conditioning around race, validate experiences pertaining to race and other intersecting identities and cultivate community.
SOCR is facilitated by PLU staff and alumni of color at Camp Arnold. Transportation is provided and will leave campus at 4 pm on Friday, September 14th and return no later than 6 pm on Saturday, September 15th. Camp style lodging, meals and snacks will be provided. SOCR is funded by the Diversity Center.
Friday Sept 14th
4:00 Leave PLU
6:30 PM Session (who we are)
8:30 Talent show (A time to celebrate a talent of yours with the group. Prior examples include drag, singing, poetry, playing a musical instrument, comedy, cultural dress or group performance… etc. This in not a requirement but an invitation to share as you so choose.)
Saturday Sept 15th
9:15 AM Sessions (Themes: identity development, community cultural wealth and colorism)
1:20 PM Sessions (Themes: self awareness to self advocacy, collective visioning)
6:15 Return to PLU
