12:30PM - 1:30PM Pasifika

Aye what’s good Pasifika!

This year we have the opportunity to create a space for Pacific Islanders as there aren’t many spaces held on campus and outside of PLU. This space is dedicated to us Pacific Natives to be in community, raise cultural awareness of the Pacific, and stand in solidarity of the injustices that Pacific islanders continue to face today.. As we navigate through this semester, we aim to bring to attention the importance of acknowledging the different cultures, histories, and community care of all Pacific Islands. We are also open to other students of different groups so we may educate them about the Pasifika because of the struggles of Indigenous voices and narratives not being heard and remaining invisible. Thank you and we welcome you!

12:00PM - 1:00PM International Identities & Topics

Welcome to International Identities! This is a space to step out of a U.S.-centered narrative. What is a U.S. centered narrative? It is a view of the world that puts the United States as the default. It assumes everyone on Earth strives, nay- should strive to be like the U.S. That includes culture, music, media, language, food, religion, and clothing. The United States only holds 4% of the world’s population! Why focus on one country? We are here to connect, learn from, and share aspects of identity and culture with each other in a global perspective. Meeting plans include dialogue topics, cooking shows, watching short films, storytelling, and celebration. We hope you will join us in joy, find comfort, and maybe learn something new!

9:30AM - 10:30AM In the News

So… we all know that November is just around the corner and from here on out a lot of attention from the media, public, and practically everyone you talk to will be directed at the two old white guys that are competing to shack up the country for the next four years. In the News, is a space to share, discuss, and reflect on the stressors around the impending election but also a space for celebration! In this chaotic year of 2020, our community needs to uplift their own local as well as global news in turn shedding light on the news outside of a purely united states-centric lens.
