Teacher Education at PLU
PLU is accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education, the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges and the Washington State Board of Education. School of Education & Kinesiology’s emphasis on early and on-going field experiences, coupled with an enduring tradition of excellence in professional and liberal arts education, has given PLU one of the most respected programs in the region.
To prepare students as teachers, PLU fosters a climate of intellectual challenge distinguished by enthusiastic learning and committed faculty. Students seek to apply and advance knowledge and discern relationships between all branches of learning. Rigorous scholarship is enriched by active mentorship and collaboration. Professors model the pursuit of excellence, engage in ongoing study of teaching methods, and take a personal interest in the success of their students.
Undergraduate Program
- Offers educational tracks in either elementary or secondary education
- Total Credits: 43-54
- Program Length: 2 years
- Program Start: Each September
- Application Date: The first Friday in March

Alternative Routes Program
- Offers educational tracks in middle level and secondary education
- Allows the possible transfer of previously completed coursework toward content area endorsements and special education
- Total Credits: 18
- Program Length: Up to 1 year
- Program Start: Each June
- Application Date: April 1st

Add-On Endorsement Program
- Offers pathways for Washington Certified teachers to add content area endorsements to their existing valid teaching certificates
- Application Date: March 1st for Spring placement, Rolling admission for Fall placement

Graduate Programs
- Offers educational tracks in elementary, middle level, secondary, instructional leadership, and principal/administrator certification
- Total Credits: 18-42 depending on the program
- Program Length: 12-14 months depending on the specific program
- Program Start: Each June
