To Shape Minds, To Touch The Future...

These are the goals and hopes of many students who choose to become K-12 teachers.

PLU trains top-notch instructors and administrators who go on to careers in elementary and secondary schools. A Bachelor of Arts in English (Literature or Writing), followed by graduate study in PLU’s School of Education, will enable newly certified teachers to begin sharing their excitement for writing and literature with young people. PLU’s English and Education programs blend to help Lutes achieve this goal.

Students preparing to teach in middle school or high school may earn a Bachelor of Arts in English at PLU and go on to apply for our Master of Arts in Education. Students preparing to teach in elementary school may complete a 20-credit minor in Children’s Literature and Culture. The PLU English major, with an emphasis in either Literature or Writing, benefits all prospective teachers of literature, language arts, drama, and related disciplines.
