Cigarettes are the most effective nicotine delivery device, and the health risks associated with smoking are well known. But what about smokeless tobacco, like snuff or snus? Are these products safe alternatives to smoking cigarettes?
The fact is, snuff, snus, and other forms of smokeless tobacco are not safer. There is still high levels of nicotine in smokeless tobacco, enough to get users addicted. Once users are addicted to nicotine, it increases their risk for trying other forms of nicotine delivery, like smoking cigarettes. Users also have a much higher risk of developing mouth, tongue, throat, esophageal, pancreatic, and stomach cancers. Smokeless tobacco can also cause tooth loss, receding gums, addiction to nicotine, as well as stained teeth and bad breath. Smokeless tobacco may not seem like a big deal, but the health risks prove otherwise.
