January 21: PLU Northwest High School Jazz Honor Band, KHP at PLU, 4:30 p.m.

March 15: University Jazz Ensemble, University Chorale, Religion Professor Dr. Douglas Oakman, and other guest artists perform selections from Duke Ellington’s Sacred Concerts, KHP at PLU, 8:00 p.m.

April 19: University Jazz Ensemble, David Deacon-Joyner, Director.

The public is invited to a concert featuring Rogers High School Jazz Band, the Pacific Lutheran University Jazz Ensemble, and Jeff Coffin on Wednesday, April 19th at 8pm in the Karen Hille Phillips Center for Performing Arts’ Eastvold Auditorium on the PLU Campus.

Thanks to a generous endowment established by PLU alumnus, Dr. Richard Weathermon ’50, Jeff Coffin will visit the PLU campus April 18-19 as part of the Richard and Helen Weathermon Joyful Noise Endowment for Jazz Studies at PLU. Mr. Coffin will spend an evening working with the Rogers High School Jazz Band (Puyallup) and a day with PLU students in Jazz Theory Labs, a masterclass setting, and rehearsals with the University Jazz Ensemble.

Saxophonist Jeff Coffin is a globally recognized musician, composer, educator and author. He is a member of the Dave Matthews Band, a 3X Grammy winner, and was a 14 year member of Béla Fleck and the Flecktones. He also fronts his own band, Jeff Coffin and the Mu’tet. In addition to a long list of other accomplishments, Jeff finds time to teach saxophone and improvisation at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN.

May 2: PLU Combos “Final Exam” concert, The Cave, Bottom floor of the University Center at PLU, 5:30 p.m.

May 29-June 12: University Jazz Ensemble tour of Spain and Portugal (with the PLU Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra).
