Noise Norms Policy
Mortvedt Library is a Lively Learning and Collaboration Environment

There are study rooms on every floor that can be reserved for private and group study (reserve a room online) — when using these rooms be aware that noise travels, so please be courteous.

Silent study – Library’s 3rd floor
No talking
Short phone calls by elevator only
Set cell phone to silent or vibrate
Note that noise may drift in from 3rd floor classroom and study rooms

Light conversation while studying – Library’s 2nd floor
Use your soft indoor voice when collaborating

Exuberant and often loud study area – Library’s 1st floor
This hub area is rarely quiet and noise levels can be high; student groups study and collaborate, active service desks help students, classes take place out in the open, people talk.
Bring or borrow headphones (from the front desk) to block out the noise.
Note that noise may drift into study rooms from the 1st floor activity.
