The National Lutheran Choir, under the direction of Dr. David Cherwien, will present the first West Coast concert at Pacific Lutheran University on Thursday, Sept. 28, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. in Lagerquist Concert Hall at the Mary Baker Russell Music Center. With the title, UNA SANCTA (One Holy), the program will include ancient as well as contemporary works that celebrate the reform initiated 500 years ago by Martin Luther and Philip Melanchthon.
Tickets are limited and can be obtained free of charge at the PLU Concierge Desk in the Anderson University Center. This is the only place where tickets can be obtained. Please note that we are unable to take requests to hold or mail tickets to interested parties. Tickets will be available on Monday, Sept. 11 and will be distributed until they run out.
Under the direction of nationally known conductor, composer and organist Dr. David Cherwien, the 64-member National Lutheran Choir’s artistry is rooted in its mission to strengthen, renew, and preserve the heritage of sacred choral music. Founded in 1986 by the late Dr. Larry Fleming, the National Lutheran Choir sings a sacred and spiritual story rooted in the Lutheran choral tradition. From early chant and simple folk anthems to complex choral masterworks and new compositions, the choir brings a rich and diverse repertoire of music to its listeners.
The National Lutheran Choir concert concludes the Seventh Annual Lutheran Studies Conference: “SING! 500 years of Faith, Reform and Liberation.” The Conference will take place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., beginning in the Regency Room of the Anderson University Center and concluding in Lagerquist Concert Hall. This conference will focus on the liberating and reforming role singing has played in the Protestant tradition from its very beginning. Participants will be invited to participate in song and learn about the role music has played in the Lutheran and Gospel music traditions.
