About

Purpose, Mission, and Affiliations

  1. To assist veterans as they transition from military to campus life, and to serve as an outreach mechanism between student veterans, school administrators and faculty, and the campus community.
  2. To ensure that veterans, active duty personnel, reservists and their families are receiving all the benefits entitled to them, and to ensure a contact to readjustment counseling should they feel the need.
  3. To provide for fellowship and camaraderie of like-minded individuals in order to create a network of students and successful alumni as a means to provide professional and leadership development.
  4. To create and promote a positive environment on campus that fosters academic success and encourages student veterans to achieve their personal academic goals, and to assist in removing obstacles to that success.
  5. To connect student veterans to resources, programs, scholarship opportunities and services available through outside (off campus) Veteran Service Organization (VSOs), as well as to facilitate communication and promote the special needs of veterans to on-campus services.
  6. PLU Student Veterans Association is affiliated with the national organization, Student Veterans of America (SVA).  More information concerning this affiliation can be found in the PLU SVA bylaws.
  7. This club will abide by the stated objectives of Pacific Lutheran University as well as the rules and regulation established by the University and is responsible to University authorities.

Position description

  • Conduct all SVA regular and special meetings
  • Serve as liaison between SVA and the Advisor
  • Prepare a Plan and Outline of Goals and Strategies, and present it to the club members for approval (one at the beginning of the year, outlining all intended events for that year, and one at the beginning of spring semester, in order to address any changes)
  • Actively recruit involvement of inactive members and follow up personally with them
  • Assist the VP with any needs or concerns they may have:
    • Work with the VP for all planning and events
    • Help the Director of Finance conduct budgetary planning
    • Help the Director of Membership/Internships with recruiting inactive members
    • Help the Director of Communications stay in touch with members and keep them informed of upcoming events
  • Assist and oversee any year-end reporting required
  • In consultation with officers, establish temporary leadership roles as needed

Position description

  • Attend all SVA regular and special meetings
  • Prepares any agenda needed for upcoming meetings
  • Prepare and maintain the minutes of all meetings (these do not have to be exact; just a general overview of what went on at the meeting), and emails the “minutes” to all members the following day
  • Records attendance of each meeting
  • Act as the media/PR representative between the group and any news/media reporting outlets, including University media (The Mast, The Daily Flyer, KPLU, etc.)
  • Assists with any year-end reporting required
  • Coordinate and manage all electronic communication and organizational sites

Position description

  • Attend all SVA regular and special meetings
  • Maintain a complete record of all funds collected by or allocated to the group through grants, fundraising efforts, product sales or other means, and keeps an accurate account of SVA account balances
  • Prepares a preliminary budget for the group at the beginning of the year
  • Prepares three statements of SVA’s financial condition during the year (one at the beginning of the school year, one before spring semester begins, and one at the end of the academic year, to be included in any year-end reporting
