Biography

Dr. Sergia Hay studied at Wellesley College, Cambridge University, Luther Seminary, and Columbia University and has previously taught philosophy in Massachusetts and Germany. At PLU since 2011, she teaches courses in applied ethics and the history of philosophy. Dr. Hay is an advocate of public philosophy (link: https://www.engagedphilosophy.com/2021/09/28/sergia-hay/) and pre-college instruction in philosophy (link: https://www.humanities.org/blog/taking-plato-prom/)

Her area of scholarly specialization is Søren Kierkegaard and her current research investigates his views on language as well as the influence on his work by Johann Hamann, a contemporary of Kant.
