Reasons To Cancel J Term and / or Spring Housing

Canceling J-Term Only

If you are returning to your current room for Spring Semester, your belongings may remain in your room.

Canceling J-Term and Spring

You must remove your belongings and complete your room check-out by 6:00 pm, Friday, December 17, 2021.

Are you Studying Away during J-Term?

  • If you are returning BEFORE 6:00 pm, Friday, January 28, 2022
    • You may keep your belongings in your room and check-out upon your return before 6:00 pm.
  • If you are returning AFTER Friday, January 28, 2022
    • You must remove your belongings and complete the room check-out process prior to leaving for your J-Term trip or by December 17, 2022.

Canceling Spring Only

Students must remove their belongings and complete the room check-out appointment process no later than 6:00 pm, Friday, January 28, 2022.

Canceling and Moving Out Mid-Semester

Students who cancel housing mid-semester can check-out at any time (cancellation fees and residency requirement may apply).  Schedule a check-out within 24 hours of withdrawing from PLU.  Please refer to the Cancellation Deadlines and Fees page for any cancellation penalty dates and amounts.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I am graduating this December do I still need to submit a housing cancellation form?

Yes.  The housing and meal agreement contract you signed prior to moving onto campus is a agreement for the entire academic year.  We will forward your cancellation request to Meal Plans.

If I am graduating this January do I still need to submit a housing cancellation form?

Yes.  The housing and meal agreement contract you signed prior to moving onto campus is a agreement for the entire academic year.  We will forward your cancellation request to Meal Plans.

Am I allowed to stay on campus after I graduate?

No.  Only students who are registered for classes for the term they are being housing are able to stay on campus.

If I study away for either J-Term or Spring what does that mean for my housing?

If you are leaving campus to Study Away for J-Term with plans to return for Spring:

    • You will need to cancel your housing for J-Term with a housing cancellation form,
      • You are able to keep your belongings in your same hall and room you had for Fall

If you are leaving campus to Study Away for Spring:

    • You will need to cancel your housing for Spring with a housing cancellation form,
      • You will be required to move out before the end of J-Term
    • You will not be able to store items in your current room, but you may store items in your halls storage area, please connect with your hall staff for details

If you are leaving campus to Study Away for J-Term and not planning on returning for Spring:

    • You will need to cancel your housing for J-Term and Spring with a housing cancellation form,
      • You will be required to move out before the end of Fall Semester
    • You will not be able to store items in your current room until your return, but you may store items in your halls storage area, please connect with your hall staff for details.

Will I receive a cancellation fee if I cancel my housing?

You will not receive a cancellation fee if you cancel your housing prior to November 30th at 11:59pm. After that time our office will issue housing cancellation fees based on our listed schedule.

If I have a friend who would like to move into the room I am departing from, can they have it?

It depends.  There are a number of factors that our office considers with these requests, please email us at rlif@plu.edu as soon as you know this information so we can provide support in a timely manner.
