Casey Brown is a sophomore student from University Place, Washington and will be serving as this year’s Social Justice Director. She is an English Writing major with a minor in Publishing & Printing Arts. She has lived in the Tacoma and Lakewood areas for her whole life, so she is eager to continue her education and explore career options outside of the 253 area, and potentially outside of Washington in the future. Casey has framed her social justice work around many topics around Diversity, Justice, & Sustainability since high school. She was chosen to receive a scholarship from Palmer Scholars her junior year of high school. From 2017-2018, Casey was a board member of the Greater Tacoma Community Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy Board who read through grant applications and allocated funds to non-profit organizations that give assistance to marginalized groups, including Centro Latino, Oasis Youth Center, Tacoma Urban League, VADIS FLASH, and the YWCA. On her free time, Casey enjoys reading for entertainment and making playlists. Along with RHA, she is also involved as BSU President, APISA’s Public Relations Director, and works as a front desk assistant at Academic Advising for the Center for Student Success. She hopes to partner with other clubs and organizations to cultivate a stronger community by thinking outside the box with programming at PLU.
